We’re always happy to support scenes we believe in and, up in the northern regions of sunny England, there’s a pocket of hip-hop, rap and general musical talent.
This could be another big week for those in Yorkshire. The NorthaZe dropped a new tune last week and this week, one half of that duo, Kosi Tides is set to release an entire solo mixtape, too.
A frequent collaborator with those boys, Toshiro Steel has helped to tease that release which is due for Thursday, sending out what he’s told us is a ‘throwaway tune’ from that incoming Kosi Tides tape. ‘don’t wait up’ is a slow tempo jam largely lead by the Sheffield singer and producer, with his tidy hook chilling on top of some more gentle 808s. Tides, who featured on our top 10 British Rap Releases of 2017 with The NorthaZe’s Sabre Series Volume 1, puts down his own melodic verse in the final third of the track.
As always, Tosh’s production is tight and futuristic, a credit to the originality of the sound that these guys are making up in Leeds and Sheff. He’s worked with Kosi on this incoming mixtape, too, so expect more of the same when it drops later this week.
