All the best new music from the proverbial underground this month once again, but without a guest this month due to the fact that our Pick of the Month doing up Glastonbury.
Fair play, LYZA, there are worse excuses, but congrats on releasing Housebound, our pick of this month’s releases…
PICK OF THE MONTH: LYZA JANE – HOUSEBOUND
Originally sent to us a white label a few months ago, Housebound has been on steady rotation at Offie Mag, with Lyza’s self-production and goosebump-inducing vocals a hit from the off.
Having features from some of the Blah Records roster alongside that makes this one of the most unique releases we’ve ever featured as our Pick of the Month, as LYZA’s floaty hooks and adlibs feel like a sympathetic shoulder to cry on for these not-so-tough-guy spitters. We played tracks with Danny Lover and Black Josh, plus the Lee Scott produced Indigo live on air, sounding real good on Platform B airwaves.
TRACK OF THE MONTH: CHLOBOCOP – NARCOTICS
This Scottish rapper is about to blow up to silly levels, we reckon.
Her effort with the aforementioned Leezus and Stinkin’ Slumrock could’ve grabbed Track of the Month in fairness, but we went with Narcotics as it embodies the sound that the Glaswegian is crafting all on her own.
It’s trippy and spacey whilst somehow hard-hitting, all at the same time, and it’s just more greatness from one of the most exciting artists to emerge this year.
VIDEO OF THE MONTH: KEYAH/BLU – CHOKER
Keyah/Blu is no stranger to us at Offie Mag, having been interviewed for a BURR back in the early days of Brickcellphone’s Underground Rap Radar.
The Londoner is patiently rolling out her solo music at the minute, doing it properly with visuals as stunning as this. Watch the whole thing for a twist of fate.
