Welcome to BURR. Brickcellphone’s Underground Rap Radar.
In this series, Brighton hip-hop DJ, Matt ‘Brickcellphone’ Leppier, is chatting to some of the underground rap talent on his radar. It’s as simple as that.
BURR 42: RADA
Okay, so we are really back now. This is the last time I’m gonna mention that. Last time we had a nice chat with Brighton’s own, Nuphzed. This week, we’re chatting to RADA, who’s been making some serious hits and has been doing serious numbers – and deservedly so.
She’s got a very smooth and melancholic sound, but she’s also collaborated with fellow 237 member, Kish!, on a rap tunes that are a little heavier. She’s very good at both. Not only that, but RADA also curates an unreal playlist celebrating the females of the UK’s underground. Anyway, here’s what we spoke about.

Ello Rada, can you introduce yourself to anyone who may not know of you?
I’m Rada, I’m a singer/rapper from North London and member of 237mob.
How’s isolation been treating you?
It’s been okay, been spending it with my best friend. We’ve got a little routine every day just trying to stay productive and busy, but it does get to your mental health sometimes though.
What’s the first thing you’ve got planned when we’re all allowed out?
Getting a tattoo lol. I haven’t got anything planned just think I’m gonna work a lot more on producing more content. Isolation kinda forced me to produce more content so I have no more excuses once this is over. Also thinking to curate another show I really enjoyed doing that for my International Women’s Day show and I just miss going to shows in general.
Burn One is so sick, we really love the video too, what else have you got coming up to see the year out?
Thank you! I recently shot another video for one of my other songs so hopefully, that’s out soon. But in general probably more music. I think I’m gonna work on producing a tape for this year something that I need to plan and stick to doing. Before Isolation, I had a couple interesting shoots planned with some cool people so hopefully, that will still be taking place.
We really like your verse on Captain Nemo (Conundrum), can we expect more rapping from you?
Yes definitely! I really enjoy rapping it just makes me feel like that bitch! I want to make a lot more trappy stuff and just play around. I’m actually working on a solo rap track right now so hopefully, people like it.
Who would you say are your biggest influences musical and otherwise?
Musically I would say right now Brent Faiyaz, King Krule, and BKtherula. Low-key Kish! too because I’m always working with him. Otherwise, I’d say visually and stylistically I take inspiration from Instagram and magazines like Azeema Mag, Sukebanmag, Wonderland. I’ve also gotten into watching a lot of anime again so I’m incorporating some of that into my own style.
I’m just popping to the offie, can I get you anything?
A Cherry B and some Randoms.
The floor is yours, give us some shoutouts, a line from your favourite book, a brief description of your favourite dish. Anything goes in this bit.
“Don’t Take Anything Personally – Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won’t be the victim of needless suffering.”
A line from my favourite book ‘The 4 agreements’.
