Angelo Outlaw's vibraphone will take you back to 1970-something

Hailing from Philadelphia, vibraphonist and percussionist Angelo Outlaw is making new music that pays homage to a classic 1970s sound.

Some words get used a lot. 'Fusion' is one and 'vibes' is another. But Free My Mind sounds like the exact jazz fusion record you're looking for in a dusty, hole-in-the-wall record shop, and Angelo's work on vibes is the main reason why.

Recreating a sound from yonder years is not easy to do and even harder to to do it without it sounding like a poorly done pastiche. But with the space and arrangements of this record, and warming vocals to fill those spaces as well as an energetic vibraphone solo towards the end, this feels authentic.
