Ania Hoo enters her next era with ‘555’

Earlier this year I very cornily found myself asking the question, “Ania Who??” — a silly play on words while writing about her excellent EP Venus, which included the single ‘Club Venus’ and later received a UK remix with Saiming lending his talents. I’m certainly not asking that same question now. Ania’s had an amazing year, including featuring on one of our projects of the year — dreamcastmoe’s The Lost Tape, Vol. 3 — and if her new single ‘555’ is anything to go by, her 2026 is shaping up to be just as strong.

‘555’, the angel number for change, captures the beauty in forced transformation. As Ania puts it, it’s about “the initial pain and heartbreak that is needed for transformation,” and the track signals a bold evolution in her sound, exploring release, growth, and self-discovery. Produced by OkayColeman and Angelo LeRoi, it’s drenched in alluring energy, with every element of the instrumental serving as the perfect foundation for Ania’s layered vocals and melody lines.

There’s a prevailing idea that simplicity equates to a lower level of musicality, one I completely reject. There’s real beauty in a more minimalist approach to writing. Sometimes all you need to make something extraordinary is tight drums, a groovy ass bassline, keys, and guitar, all coming together to complement a great vocal performance.

As I said, there’s no confusion about who Ania Hoo is anymore. ‘555’ is a fitting end to a superb year, and we’re very excited to see what she does next.
