London singer and songwriter Bel Cobain has been one of the most original underground music talents in the UK for a while now, putting poignant writing into her softly performed vocals since 2018. 

Leader, a free-flowing jazz track for the most part, was a highlight of 2022 and it seems that Bel Cobain is ending 2023 by sharing new music. Inspired by a trip to Mexico earlier this year, the genre-fluid artist has released Unlikely, a track that once again feels like jazz in spirit, but with lively drums more akin to jungle.

 

 

Speaking of spirit - or more so spirits - the specificities of how that trip to Mexico informed the single are to do with a series of paranormal activities and spiritual signs everywhere Bel and friends went, including at an artist's house where the song was largely written.
