'TONY MADONNA[DADA]’, BODUR’s “satirical act of dada,” critiques the concept of the ‘generic lead single’ found on virtually every commercial album of the 21st century. Rooted in Dadaism—a movement defined by deliberate irrationality and the rejection of traditional artistic values—this track serves as an experimental protest piece.
Produced by Tokyo-based producer Lapsung, ‘TONY MADONNA[DADA]’ is accompanied by a striking video helmed by BODUR’s visual director, Furmaan Ahmed (whose credits include work with Travis Scott, SOPHIE, Shygirl, Eartheater, Celeste, and MENA DAZED100). The video forms part of a broader 35-minute film set to accompany BODUR’s debut album, MAQAM, slated for release on 21st March via PACE.
On MAQAM, the North West London native embraces a groundbreaking sound that reflects her Irish, Middle Eastern, and South Asian heritage. The album delves into Arabic musical modes, which are indicated in square brackets within the tracklist. The campaign began in 2024 with singles such as ‘TAPESTRY [HIJAZ]’, ‘MY BLOOD IT'S IN THE SOIL [SABA]’, and ‘UGLY [NAHAWAND’].
With ‘TONY MADONNA[DADA]’, BODUR continues to fuse artistic storytelling with incisive political commentary, tackling themes of racism, Islamophobia, and the emotional toll these issues impose on young people.
