As a person of South East Asian heritage, it has always saddened me how East and South East Asian culture is too often underrepresented and underpromoted within arts, music and creative circles. So it gives me great pleasure to see how Eastern Margins has used its platform to create a community for East and SE Asian creatives to share, collaborate, network, and create together.
Having hosted at Glastonbury and put on multiple sold out events across the country it's only right that we see Eastern Margins progress and produce their first ever festival concept MARGINS UNITED, the first festival in the UK and Europe centred around alternative East and South East Asian culture. Their day-to-night programme at EartH Hackney includes 70+ cultural ESEA artists as it expands beyond just music but to visual art, food, installations, workshops, talks, and more.
However with that being said the musical line-up is also top tier with my picks being Malaysian artist Shelhiel who effortlessly blends Hyperpop and Nightcore with local sounds and one of our favourites Jianbo who will be performing alongside Brighton resident Namani, Lucy Tun amongst others.
So if you find yourself around East London on the 28th September, beam down to EartH Hackney and broaden your horizons to what the real east has to offer. You can grab a ticket here.
