Brooklyn-born, South London-based rapper Goya Gumbani returns with Yaya Bey, lojii, and Fatima for his latest single, 'Chase The Sunrise'.
Gumbani and lojii trade verses over a smooth beat woven with glossy guitars, punctuated by Fatima’s soulful vocals. The track is a reflection of gratitude for family and a tribute to the legends who paved the way for them. Following 'Himalayan Salt', this marks Goya’s second release under Ghostly International.
Accompanying the single is a understated black-and-white video, directed by Brice Birdsall, where the artists sit at a kitchen table, surrounded by framed representations of important figures in their lives. This visual element amplifies the song’s themes. “Grief presents differently to each person that’s forced to face it,” explains Birdsall. “In this video, we gave it a seat at the table, while Goya, Yaya Bey, and lojii confront their experiences in their own ways. Grief is always present, a companion to be spoken to and recognised, even if we don’t fully understand it.”
