Introducing The Forever Presence with ‘Elizabeth’

The summer solstice is the longest day of the year and is traditionally marked by pagan festivities and signals the start of summer. This year’s solstice also brought a fresh release from The Forever Presence. Drawing from the rich tradition of Spiritual Jazz, they weave in ambient electronic textures and contemporary classical arrangements that evoke both depth and delicacy.

‘Elizabeth’ is a sophisticated, dynamic piece that feels in constant motion – always progressing and pushing forward. At the forefront is James Akers on saxophone, whose motifs repeat with subtle variations and ornamentation, while the drums and bass respond organically to each crescendo. Lorenz Okello‑Osengor on piano delivers a stimulating performance, serving mainly as the harmonic backbone but enjoying a passage all to himself where the textures dissipate to their bare bones before the sax returns to close with aplomb.

Already praised by the likes of Gilles Peterson and Clash Magazine, this is just the beginning of their journey with their debut album soon to be announced.
