In case you weren't already sold by the title of Flute Punch, you will be by the opening few seconds.
A quick count in and a face-bending opening few toots of the instrument in question sucks you in to JJ Whitefield's world. It's a world where the German musician explores funk-infused jazz, following it all the way into krautrock realms to create a forthcoming album, Puzzled, that promises to be his most sonically diverse project to date.
Having worked with the likes of Ebo Taylor, Karl Hector and Poets of Rhythm in his career, Whitefield has no shortage of musical reference points to draw upon. Releasing on Broc Recordz on November 3rd, the 13-track release will be available on vinyl direct from the French label.
Incidentally, the artwork for the project was done by Jason Jagel, who made the artwork for MF DOOM's DOOMSDAY and MM... FOOD.
