The Earth has layers, onions—famously—have layers, and when it’s particularly cold, I too will have layers.
What I’m getting at is that there are layers everywhere you look, and Kuna Maze’s new project is another to add to the list. Layers is the French-born producer’s first extended body of work since 2023’s Night Shift, and it sees him drawing heavily from his experiences touring with his live band. “My aim was to capture the energy and improvisational spirit of live performances while diving deeper into the jazz influences of my music,
all while maintaining the electronic vibe that has always defined my sound.”
By working with the band directly for the recording of these tracks, he’s managed to bottle the energy of a live show—yet Layers is just as immersive when played from the comfort of your own home. The
album invites repeated listens, revealing more with each play as the layers of instrumentation unfold.
It’s a testament to Kuna Maze’s approach to music: the more you listen, the more you hear. The album’s release also came with a limited vinyl drop, which sold out almost instantly—proof, if any was needed, that this sound is in high demand. While the vinyl may be gone, the music isn’t. Layers is
available now, ready to be explored, piece by piece.
