'Bristol Changes', Kuna Maze’s latest release on Tru Thoughts, is a jazz-infused drum and bass track that pays homage to the titular West Country city while drawing inspiration from the intricate chord progressions pioneered by legendary saxophonist John Coltrane.
This marks the Brussels-based producer’s first offering since his debut album Night Shift, and it delivers with his signature keyboard stabs and distorted dub sirens laying the groundwork for an ominous, gripping composition. Saxophonist Hyungjin Lee shines with an improvised solo that spans the track, while Victor Pascal keeps the energy alive with dynamic breakbeat patterns layered seamlessly throughout.
Kuna Maze set out to craft an ode to 90s drum and bass, firmly anchored in jazz influences—and he’s achieved it with finesse.
