'Longing': A bass-driven exploration by Seodophy

Lithuanian bassist and producer Seodophy returns with ‘Longing’, a bass-led, emotionally charged piece that intimately continues their blend of hazy nu-jazz and expansive post-rock.

The bass guitar carries the track’s emotional character, while the keys and bells embellish and provide further colour. Their placement in your ears feels purposeful, almost like stars in the night sky spread far, far apart. The drums don’t keep the pulse of the track; instead, they follow the bass’ energy, reacting to each lick and note as they carry such emotional weight — moving through urgency, grief, and quiet hope, all without a single word being spoken.

When the track crescendos and the texture thickens, the piece’s energy lifts into a more optimistic tone, and as the dynamics quieten, the sound feels all the more personal. With textures that breathe, dynamics that ache, and a sense of tension and release, ‘Longing’ reaffirms Seodophy’s ability to speak through composition alone.

As someone currently travelling on my own jazz journey, this track struck me instantly as one to play on repeat. And I’m excited to hear what’s coming next from Seodophy.
