OFFIE MAG'S MUSIC OF THE MONTH: FEBRUARY 2026

For years, we used to run Offie Mag's Music of the Month on the streaming platform with the green logo. But we are taking a professional break from that particular platform for political reasons.

We don't need their algorithmic, artificially intelligent, low-royalty platform that marginalises independent musicians and focuses on profit-driven procedures that have undoubtedly homogenised music consumption, in order to curate some good music to listen to.

We're Offie Mag, and we'd much rather share music in a way that encourages tangible support for independent music.

So for our first Music of the Month of 2026, here are some of our favourite independently released songs and projects from February, with links to buy them - or listen to them - elsewhere.

Momoko Gill - MOMOKO

Randomer from Reddit: “Great album. Experimental soul with elements of jazz.” - bang on, we reckon.

Sideshow - Tigray Funk

On track 18, Sideshow says: ‘When I die, I need the best coffin,’ and that beautiful balance between contagious ambition and the meekness of mortality might just sum up another 10k triumph.

Recky - LOOK

Heard this on Fatima’s Maple Syrup Waffles Show on NTS, and then heard it again on repeat for the next 25 minutes. South London sounding equal parts gritty and squeaky clean. LOOK.

Klein - spiritual warfare

Klein is playing at Cafe OTO three nights in a row in March 2026. How are they able to make music so vivid that it feels like you’re at a live set already? How moving are those live sets going to be?

Fabiano Do Nascimento & Vittor Santos Orchestra - Vila

It’s not that everything he touches turns to gold, but that every time Fabiano Do Nascimento touches a guitar, sound turns to memories - whether they are yours, or his. Usually beautifully minimal, on Vila he collaborates with a 16-piece orchestra to create something still gentle - a tribute to his home neighbourhood.

KIBO - Chancer

The YouTube comments will do the job here. @m.i.c3: ‘I love having ears man.’ @snaasta: ‘And thus the Kwengnaissance began.’

박혜진 Park Hye Jin - So Much Have Fun

With all tracks written, produced and performed by 박혜진 Park Hye Jin, this tape has a free and ferocious spirit, touching on many moods, genres and tempos.

Lord Tusk - Always Be (Memoriam Anthem)

A track dedicated to ‘loved ones passed away and the ancestors,’ a vocal that cries ‘always on mind’ and ‘always you will shine’ make this a production that could not only fill a room, but also fill your headspace.

GENA - The Pleasure is Yours

For Fans Of: Liv.e, Kariem Riggins, and extremely good, timeless music that pushes what’s vocally and percussively possible.

Samba Jean-Baptiste - director’s cut

He hosted a listening party recently and it was sold out before it was announced. Not many artists could manage that.

Username - better duck when you see U

Another early song of the year contender, Username is on a generational run. This is contemporary footwork at its finest.

Tilaye Gebre – Tilaye’s Saxophone With The Dahlak Band

Recorded in Addis Ababa’s hotel-band era in the late 1970s, this 2026 reissue on Muzikawi captures Tilaye as the scene’s secret engine: sax lines that glide, then bite, over funk, soul and Ethiopique swing.

repair kit - ★that time i got reincarnated as an otaku ദ്ദി(˵ •̀ ᴗ - ˵ )★ !!! 2025 ୨୧

Six quick tracks to chew and crunch on from the Illinois producer who goes by various aliases. As repair kit, she’s one of the artists contributing to a footwork renaissance, although this release takes it down a couple beats per minute.

Ragz Originale - keepsake

Of this project, Ragz said: ‘Hope this helps you fall in love with music all over again, like I did.’ We’re taking it steady, but it’s going well so far. ‘Same Bed,’ produced by Budgie, is the earworm of 2026 so far.

VRITRA - HUSK

A six-part tragedy that tells the story of VRITRA. It’s self reflective, vulnerable and intense. Something you can get lost inside.

Ms Ray - Miss You (feat Nourished by Time)

2026 does 1980-something and does it really well — not a pastiche, but a passage back to a time when pop music was dark. Scenic Route is one of the highest stamps of approval an independent artist can receive, but honestly, this would’ve charted in 1987.

James Massiah & DJ GAWAD - Contact High

In 300 years time, this project will be rediscovered and studied with the aim of learning what people did with their free time during late-stage capitalism in London circa 2026.

Turich Benjy - Ask The Devil

When he said, ‘You couldn’t make a good song even with Drake,’ the writer of this very short music vacated their seat. Left it just spinning there in the office. Half-drunk cup of coffee. Laptop still open with this song playing from a YouTube tab.
