When we interviewed dreamcastmoe back in June 2024, if you’d told me I’d be taking him for his first ever Morley’s a year later, I’d have been chuffed – I love wings.
If you’d told me I’d be going back to back with him after watching Charlton beat Sheffield Wednesday 2–1 at The Valley, I’d have been over the moon.
What I’m getting at is this: I’ve been lucky enough to see one of my favourite artists more than I ever expected. And going into the new year, DCM and his friends have something new in store for us. Playa Playa.
Playa Playa didn’t start with a plan. It started with a party. Built in Washington, D.C. by dreamcastmoe, the night was about joy, sweat, soul, and real connection. That connection between people and the dancefloor is what Playa Playa is, it’s a continuation of the energy you get from these lived experiences.
A collective of three artists, Playa Playa brings different paths and scenes into one shared sound. DCM blurs the line between booth and floor. Charles Moon pulls from global after-hours culture, shaped by nights in CDMX and Tokyo. Damar Davis grounds it all with a house foundation rooted in warmth and groove.
Together, they create sets that feel intentional, not assembled. Moving between tension and release, swing and stillness, always locked into the room. Playa Playa stands for the range and evolution of Black electronic music, building a space where house, R&B, and global club sounds meet in the present.
The momentum comes from years of individual work and communities built along the way. Now those paths converge, as the trio look to align their journeys and take us somewhere special.
At its core, it’s an invitation: to move, to let go, to stay curious. And they’re only just getting started.
