Really good independent music released last month

For years, we used to run Offie Mag's Music of the Month on the streaming platform with the green logo. But we are taking a professional break from that particular platform for political reasons.

We don't need their algorithmic, artificially intelligent, low-royalty platform that marginalises independent musicians and focuses on profit-driven procedures that have undoubtedly homogenised music consumption, in order to curate some good music to listen to.

We're Offie Mag, and we'd much rather share music in a way that encourages tangible support for independent music.

So, here are some of our favourite independently released songs and projects from March and beyond, with links to buy them - or listen to them... elsewhere.

Kizzy - Bel Cobain

A Brownswood debut for an artist who has been reaching ears and touching hearts for a while. Remember 2019’s Introverted Stoner? Cobain’s sound has continued to evolve, still grounded in deep jazz but with more stories to tell.

Duendita - existential thottie

The voice, the voice, the voice. No one does highs and lows like Duendita. This project feels like it’s made for the stage. Not even for a gig, but for theatre. One single spotlight, pointed down on our protagonist, as she gets off a monologue you can move to.

Kuna Maze - Scraps & Pieces (Lefto Early Bird’s Patchwork Remix)

A Tru Thoughts release that breathes even more life into Kuna Maze’s Layers project from last year. Lefto’s remix will have you drifting the trolley around the big shop at noon and pumping arms in the club at midnight.

Sticky Dub - raw material

If this song wore an outfit it would have Timberlands on it’s feet, a pair of FUBU jeans, and a 1995/96 Liverpool FC home shirt with Fowler 23 on the back and Carlsberg on the front. East Coast Hip-Hop via the Mersey, and a return to rap for an artist who made one of the best club records of 2024.

Asa Tate - Box Fresh

A track that has the potential to change the direction of your day. You only opened your laptop to do emails and now you’ve cleaned your entire house, booked festival tickets for August and asked your boss for a pay rise. Also, you’re sat on the ceiling.

Hunnaloe - Standing on Business

Subjxct 5 and Silent Human handle production for a mixtape that you’re going to want to purchase, burn to a blank CD with the title scribbled on in blue marker pen, and put in your nearest car stereo.

David Armada & inlovewitheart - Ujuslovemyart

While people in the US argue about what ‘experimental rap’ is, South London’s David Armada continues to make whatever the hell this is and more importantly, whatever the hell he wants.

Brbko - Hand of God.II

Diego Maradona cheated, then scored one of the best goals ever. The Manchester-born MC and producer’s ‘Hand Of God.II’ won’t be breaking England hearts, but like the Argentine maestro, Brbko is capable of some truly magical moments.

Tay Jordan - Last Run

Tay Jordan’s Last Run has been described as ‘a well-oiled, state-side time machine’. He should’ve been featured on The Chronic.

Bbymutha - rent due

I’ve never been more glad for rent due. I’d also imagine that having bbymutha as a landlord would be far more chill than my current arrangement.

Babyfather - icl

The ever elusive man with many names teams up with Wraith9, Vegyn and TYSON for this EP lasting under 7 minutes. The perfect soundtrack to a four-beer, two-cigarette speed run.

Saucy Lady - Why?

Originally released in 2023, this Star Creature rerelease could’ve easily come out in 1983. Will probably get dropped at the next Offie Mag Social.

Jwles - Fuchsia

My nan used to love fuchsias and had loads in her front garden. I don’t know what this song is actually about, but I’m sure it’s not that. Can someone translate?

1LDK - 1LDK

Apparently 1LDKs are one room apartments with a living, dining and kitchen area. It’s also the eponymous debut from a Tokyo-based Chinese/Dutch outfit blending Mando pop with Eurodance. I know which one I’d rather listen to.

Upsammy & Valentina Magaletti - Seismo

Warm, ethereal moments clash with sparse, coarse textures. ‘Seismo’ keeps you on your toes, never quite settling where you expect.

Lisha G - Now or Never

The official visualiser for this optimistic rap track is Toad, Mario Kart-ing across a cash counter that doesn’t stop flicking through notes.

Rian Brazil - a butterfly was born / things 2 make U smile

A Rian Brazil two piece, now that’s something to smile about. This Sussex songbird’s vocals always tug at the heartstrings, with exquisite keys from Clearo just adding to the magic.

amil raja - decay

In hindsight, this is what underground music should have sounded like in 2010, but amil raja’s recent output is worth that wait. Music Videos Still on the TV Era aesthetic with production that re-uses digital dust.

Hollie Cook - Shy Girl in Dub

In 2025, Mr Bongo released a gorgeous reggae record from Hollie Cook, some fifteen years after her self-titled debut LP launched on the same label. This Spring, producer Ben McKone chopped Shy Girl up, adding echoes and delays and so much space, for a Dub re-work of the album.
