Musician and multi-disciplined artist Sudi is at the forefront of a sound that he himself describes as ‘heavy chill’.
A sound that formed the basis of his 2023 project of the same name, characterised by airy melodies, soft 808s, and rattling trap drums that brings the flavours of plugg to your sonic palate.
But on ‘COLD’, we get something different from the Hackney rapper: thought-provoking bars over a chopped-up grime beat from producer and frequent collaborator NJRGÉ that will have the masses calling for a reload at any motive this gets played at.
The track comes out with all guns blazing, with the shouts of "Omar's coming" before Sudi lets the beat rock, layering in some distant ad-libs until he rejoins the beat, both bringing the energy to its highest on the second verse.
He’s ice-cold like Three Stacks, and with plays on BBC 1Xtra and OVO Sound Radio, there’s evidence enough that this mix of UK rap, grime, and R&B is something to be tapping into as the new year begins.
